The Board has a majority of seafood industry members, two government members, one union member and an independent chairperson. It has been formed with the support of industry associations and government.
Catherine Barnett
Catherine operates a marketing consultancy in Adelaide and is a member of a number of boards and committees in South Australia.
She is Chair of the South Australian Rock Lobster Advisory Council, Deputy Chair of Rural Financial Counselling Service South Australia and a member of the Forestry Industry Development Board. Catherine is also Executive Officer of Flavour SA, the food industry association inc.
John Carragher
John works as a Principal Research Scientist for SARDI Innovative Foods and is based at the SA Food Centre at Regency Park in Adelaide. John’s areas of industry expertise are in harvest and post harvest factors affecting seafood product quality, innovative value-adding techniques and aquaculture. John was involved in the successful bid for the recently established Seafood Cooperative Research Centre.
Milan Rapp
Milan has had an extensive career in the exporting of seafood. Milan is currently President of the Seafood Processors and Exporters Council and has chaired Ocean Foods Pty Ltd for 40 years. Milan believes in the value of training and has previously chaired the National Fishing Industry Training Council. Milan is also Chairman of the Primary Industries Skills Council.
David Ellis
David Ellis is Research Manager for the Australian
Southern Bluefin Tuna Industry Association and is based in Port Lincoln. David has substantial experience and technical skills in a range of fishing and aquaculture sectors spanning from the southern ocean to northern Australia. David has a strong empathy for the need for industry training.
Mark Cody
Mark is Executive Officer of the Primary Industries Skills Council and is a Director on the Seafood Processors and Exporters Council. Mark has been a member of both national and state-based boards such as the Seafood Standing Committee for the Agrifood Industry Skills Council and has business experience in aquaculture, specifically fish farming.
Christine Harrison
Chris Harrison is the Director, Workforce Planning and
Policy Directorate of the Department of Further Education, Employment, Science and Technology. Chris’s strength relates to industry workforce issues and skills development.
Nick Thredgold
Nick is Branch Secretary of the National Union of Workers in South Australia and has a keen interest in workforce training. Nick has been a member of the South Australian based Food Training SA board since 2002 and brings experience in the recruitment of personnel, enterprise agreements and industrial matters.
Samara Miller - Executive Officer (non Board Member)
Samara joined the Seafood Training Centre as its Executive Officer in November 2007 and is based in Port Lincoln. Samara has over 14 years experience working with the seafood industry in the areas of research, management and direct day to day running of seafood industry organisations both at the State and national level. Samara offers a range of skills, experience and passion for the industry and the development of its people.
